White willow bark is often referred to as “nature’s aspirin.” Traditionally used to reduce inflammation and ease pain, it’s a go-to herb for discomfort in joints, muscles, and the lower back. It contains salicin, a compound that the body converts into salicylic acid—similar to the active ingredient in aspirin—making it helpful for headaches, menstrual cramps, and general pain support.
How to Use:
Decoct 1–2 tsp in simmering water for 15–20 minutes. Strain and sip warm. Best used in short durations or rotated with other supportive herbs. Pairs well with anti-inflammatory and soothing herbs.
Can be used topically.
Sourced: Western Asia.
Precautions:
Not recommended for individuals allergic to aspirin (salicylates) or those taking blood thinners.
Avoid use during pregnancy, and consult a healthcare provider if on medications that affect clotting or liver function. Not suitable for children unless directed by a professional.
